POWERREADY GUIDE

What Size Power Station Runs a Refrigerator?

How to account for both battery capacity and compressor startup.

Running watts vs. startup watts

A refrigerator may consume modest power while running but require a higher surge when its compressor starts. Your power station therefore needs adequate inverter output in addition to enough stored energy.

Estimate runtime

A simple planning calculation is average watts × hours, then add a buffer for losses and uncertainty. Real refrigerators cycle rather than drawing their rated running wattage continuously.

Add your other essentials

If the battery will also run Wi-Fi, lights, a TV or laptops, include those loads before choosing a capacity class. The combined requirement is what determines the better fit.

When to go bigger

If you need multiple high-draw appliances at once or want multi-day autonomy without relying heavily on solar, a larger or expandable system may be appropriate.
